The Redmi 13 is a smartphone that sells for just €149.20 (~$161) with 8GB of RAM in Europe right now - however, it only has 4G/LTE connectivity for that price.
Its new 5G version has now been launched - albeit in India instead. The new HyperOS smartphone shares its new connectivity with rivals such as the Vivo V30 SE and POCO M6 Pro, yet is touted to have the edge on them with a new version of their shared chipset.
The 13 5G has been unveiled as India's first device with the Accelerated Edition (or AE) of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, which confers an increased clock-speed of 2.3GHz on the 4nm processor, as opposed to 2.2GHz in devices such as the M6 Pro or Redmi Note 12R.
The 4 Gen 2 AE also drives a faster 120Hz refresh rate in the 13 5G, for a display that upgrades to Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The 5G version is covered in glass on the back as well (which, apparently, makes it unique in its segment of the Indian market), with a selection of the original 13's colorways renamed to Hawaiian Blue, Orchid Pink and Diamond Black.
The rest of its specs remain unchanged compared to the 13 4G otherwise. Therefore, this smartphone also gets a ring flash to go with its 108MP main rear camera, a large yet also LCD display and 33W wired charging for a 5,030mAh battery.
Redmi has partnered with Amazon India to announce that the 13 5G will be available from July 12, 2024, starting at INR 12,999 (~$156).
