Xiaomi Redmi Note 12R: First Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 smartphone debuts with Redmi 12 design
Xiaomi has now launched the Redmi Note 12R in China, shortly after Qualcomm presented the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset. Arriving a few days after the handset leaked courtesy of China Telecom, the Redmi Note 12R will be slightly more powerful than the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1-powered Redmi Note 12R Pro. However, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 promises to be significantly more efficient than its predecessor thanks to Qualcomm's switch to from 6 nm to 4 nm nodes.
Thus, the Redmi Note 12R should last longer on a single charge from the same 5,000 mAh battery than the Redmi Note 12R Pro. As expected, the Redmi Note 12R looks more like the Redmi 12 than the Redmi Note 12R Pro, albeit with two rear-facing cameras instead of three. According to Xiaomi, the Redmi Note 12R combines a 50 MP primary camera with a 2 MP auxiliary sensor and a 5 MP front-facing sensor that sits behind a small punch-hole.
Additionally, the Redmi Note 12R has a 6.79-inch IPS display that resolves at 1080p with a 90 Hz refresh rate. The Redmi Note 12R is available in China from CNY 999 (~US$138) with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Alternatively, Xiaomi sells the handset with the same storage but 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM for CNY 1,099 (~US$152) and CNY 1,499 (~US$207), as well as 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for CNY 1,799 (~US$248). International availability remains unknown for now.
