Xiaomi has announced that it will debut a 5G version of its affordable "Style Icon", the Redmi 12, in India soon. It is slated to have the largest display among the brand's Android smartphones yet, and to have dual rear cameras with a 50MP main camera. It will launch via Amazon.in as one of the site's Specials soon.

The Redmi 12 4G is now available through platforms such as Flipkart, starting at INR 13,999 (~US$170). However, for those who might be willing to spend a little more for a smartphone with a very similar "Crystal Glass" design (featuring the standard flat-edged mid-frame refined with rounded edges) and updated mobile data specs, there is the 12 5G - or will be soon, rather.

The device is said to be a rebrand of the Note 12R for the Indian market, a rumor boosted by Xiaomi's announcement that it will have "Redmi's biggest display ever". In that case, it might be driven by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC.

Redmi has already revealed that it will have 8GB of RAM, expandable in software by another 8GB out of its 256GB internal storage capacity. It will also have a 5,000mAh battery, despite hints at a super-slim chassis.

The 12 5G has 2 rear cameras to the 12 4G's 3 - however, Redmi does assert that one of them will be a 50MP shooter that will go well with its app's "Film Filters". There is no price for the new 12-series member as yet, although it does not have long to remain a mystery, as the smartphone is scheduled to launch on August 1, 2023.
