Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0 rumored to detect hidden cameras; Privacy feature could debut in October
Xiaomi is reportedly developing HyperOS 2.0, the next iteration of its Android-based operating system. According to XiaomiTime, this update may introduce a feature designed to detect hidden cameras, addressing privacy concerns for travelers and users in unfamiliar environments.
Key Features:
- Camera Scan: The rumored feature utilizes wireless local-area network (WLAN) signals to identify concealed cameras in the vicinity.
- User Interface: A leaked screenshot suggests a simple, one-tap scan option with the message “Detect hidden cameras to protect your privacy and personal safety.”
- Technology: The feature reportedly leverages WLAN searches to locate potential hidden cameras, similar to the Python-based Ingram program available on GitHub.
HyperOS 2.0 is expected to launch in October 2024, approximately one year since the introduction of HyperOS 1.0. The update is anticipated to enhance device performance, interconnectivity, and customization options alongside the new privacy features.
Xiaomi debuted HyperOS with the Xiaomi 14 series in China in October 2023, replacing the long-standing MIUI. The operating system made its Indian debut with the Poco X6 Pro in January 2024. By Q2 2024, HyperOS had already rolled out to several other devices, including the Poco M4 Pro, C65, and M6.
As the development of HyperOS 2.0 progresses, privacy-focused features like hidden camera detection could set a new standard for smartphone operating systems, particularly in addressing the growing concerns around personal privacy and security in the digital age.
