Xiaomi Motion Sensor 2S: New smart home motion detector offers a range of improvements
Xiaomi is expanding its already extensive portfolio of smart home devices with the new Xiaomi Motion Sensor 2S. The product recently appeared on Xiaomi's global website, signaling a worldwide launch.
As usual, the homepage does not reveal when exactly the Xiaomi Motion Sensor 2S will be launched and whether it will also be available in Europe or the US. The price is also not yet known. On the other hand, the features of the new smart home motion detector are mentioned.
The Xiaomi Motion Sensor 2S is the successor to the Xiaomi Motion Sensor and comes with a number of improvements. Among other things, the manufacturer has extended the battery life with a CR2450 (not included) from two to three years compared to the first generation. In addition, the new sensor is now not only able to detect larger movements, but also micro-movements of people via a new and particularly sensitive mode. This is possible within a range of around 3 m, while the entire "field of view" is 7 m wide.
In addition to improvements in light detection, the detection interval can now also be set in three stages between 10 and 30 seconds, which was previously not possible. BLE is now used for wireless connectivity instead of Zigbee, which allows the new motion detector to be networked with the Xiaomi Home app and many other devices in the smart home.
Overall, the new Xiaomi Motion Sensor 2S is not as innovative as the recently introduced Meross Presense Sensor MS600, but offers a number of improvements and can be used for many different automated functions in the smart home, such as the light automatically switching on when someone enters a room. Its mounting bracket allows for flexible installation.
