Logitech has developed a small millimetre wave (mmWave) radar designed to help detect the presence of people in meeting rooms and offices, as well as measure changes in air quality throughout the day. However, such sensors could potentially also be used to monitor employees.

The Logitech Spot is primarily a mmWave radar designed to function as a presence sensor. Logitech says the device promotes more efficient use of office spaces by automatically detecting whether an area is occupied, enabling its companion software to indicate room availability.

Rooms can be automatically marked as reserved or available when people enter or vacate them. Logitech View is a tool capable of displaying the layout of a workplace, allowing spaces to be used more effectively and underused areas to be identified.

A mmWave radar doesn’t require a line of sight to collect data, meaning the Logitech Spot could potentially be used to monitor employees without their knowledge. However, Logitech assures that the device only sends a room's occupancy status to the companion software, but not the number of people and the activities happening in the room.

The Logitech Spot can be easily mounted on a wall using its adhesive back and can last up to four years on a single battery – no power cable necessary. The device also collects environmental data, such as temperature, humidity, CO2, VOCs and air changes, to assess whether a room suffers from poor air quality.

Price and availability

The Logitech Spot is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2025. Although Logitech hasn’t confirmed any details about the hardware’s pricing, accessing all the features requires a subscription costing $199 or $399 per year, depending on the plan selected.
