RedMagic has confirmed plans to launch a new compact gaming tablet globally. Arriving in July, the RedMagic Astra 2 will combine a 185 Hz OLED display with liquid cooling, a large battery and Qualcomm's high-end Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset.

Earlier today, Nubia presented the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro in China under its RedMagic subdivision. As we discussed at the time, it was unclear when Nubia would launch the same tablet internationally. However, it had indicated that the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro would be available outside China as the RedMagic Astra 2.

Now, the company has confirmed that the RedMagic Astra 2 will be launching globally on July 17. As always, RedMagic is running a giveaway alongside this announcement for a chance to win a RedMagic Astra 2 or various less valuable prizes. RedMagic adds that the associated 'Escape the Maze Challenge' will be around until July 23. Meanwhile, the sign-up giveaway itself will last until July 28.

Typically, these dates line up with when Early Bird and general pre-orders open. Hence, the RedMagic Astra 2 may not be available to purchase for a few days after its July 17 launch. In the meantime, RedMagic has confirmed that the Astra 2 will be available globally with the same 8,300 mAh battery as its Gaming Tablet 5 Pro counterpart. RedMagic furnishes its global tablet with 75 W charging though rather than the 80 W available on the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro.

Setting that aside, the RedMagic Astra also integrates liquid cooling and a 9.06-inch OLED display. As the image below shows, this display combines a 2.4K resolution with a 185 Hz refresh rate and up to 1,600 nits peak brightness. On top of that, the RedMagic Astra 2 leverages Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset to match current flagship smartphones like the Galaxy S26 Ultra and the OnePlus 15 to surpass the iPad mini 7 (curr. $583 on Amazon). Please see RedMagic's website and our launch article for more details.
