The dust has now settled on Gamescom 2025, which ran between August 20 and August 24 in Cologne. Although focused on video games, manufacturers like Asus also showcased numerous devices during this year's trade fair. For example, the company presented three gaming monitors alone.
Of those, the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W appeared to generate the most noise by being the first monitor with a 540 Hz Tandem OLED panel. The ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W also has another party trick though, just like other Dual Mode monitors before it, like the LG UltraGear OLED 32GX870A before it (curr. $1,099.99 on Amazon). While the UltraGear OLED 32GX870A reaches 480 Hz by dropping from 4K to 1080p, the PG27AQWP-W goes all the way up to 720 Hz.
Unfortunately, Asus and LG Display seemingly allowed confusion to reign during last week's announcement, though. As The Verge noted at the time, both companies insisted that the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W could hit 720 Hz at 1080p. As we expected at the time, this is not the case. Instead, Asus has now clarified the following:
The ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W's dual-mode technology lets you pick between gorgeous 2K @ 540Hz or esports-ready 720p HD @ 720Hz, giving you options when you need to prioritize refresh rate or resolution.
Pricing and availability are still unconfirmed at this stage. According to TFT Central, a release could occur in October, with Asus apparently suggesting a Q4 2025 launch during Gamescom 2025. Please see our earlier article for more technical details about the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W.
