The RG477M is less than a month old, having arrived at the start of August. For context, Anbernic sells its latest 4.7-inch gaming handheld with a CNC metal shell in a choice of two colours and hardware borrowed from other recent Anbernic gaming handhelds like the RG Slide (curr. $219.99 on Amazon). The RG477M is regarded as being on the expensive side because of its CNC shell, though.
In response, MagicX is already preparing an alternative. Specifically, it has now announced the Two48, which differs from the RG477M in a few areas despite looking visually similar. On the one hand, the Two48 jumps to a 1,440 x 1,080 native resolution compared to 1,280 x 960 for the RG477M. The high-resolution display is also said to measure 0.1-inches longer diagonally, albeit while retaining a 4:3 aspect ratio.
On the other hand, MagicX expects to offer the Two48 with the MediaTek Dimensity 7350 rather than the Dimensity 8300 used in the RG477M. Theoretically, this decision should make the Two48 cheaper than the RG477M alone. Our benchmarks suggest that the Two48 will trail the RG477M in both CPU and GPU tasks, though. Currently, MagicX is aiming to release the Two48 early next year alongside the Two58. As such, pricing remains a mystery at this stage.
