A few weeks after it revealed that it was working on a successor to the Odin 2, AYN Technologies has revealed the first look at the new handheld that will launch as the Odin 3. The image shows the Odin 3 will not look like its predecessor but will borrow its design, at least the front, from the Odin 2 Portal, albeit with a few changes.
The Odin 3 appears to have a larger display than its predecessor, but we are not certain if it is the same screen size as that of the Odin 2 Portal. However, unlike the Odin 2 Portal (available on Amazon for $539.95) whose display curves at the edges towards the buttons, the Odin 3 is totally flat.
The image of the Odin 3 shows the handheld will have asymmetrical joysticks, the same D-pad design as the Odin 2 Portal and even identical placements for the rest of the buttons. However, instead of an Xbox layout for the ABXY buttons, AYN has decided to go with a Nintendo Switch layout just as it did with the AYN Thor. While some might not like that, AYN will probably sell ABXY buttons with an Xbox layout as an additional accessory.
The render of the Odin 3 also shows the handheld's textured thumbsticks will have RGB ring lights while the bottom will house a microSD card slot, an audio jack, and a USB-C port. The speaker grilles are also a tad larger with more openings.
AYN has also released a teaser video that shows the entire front of the handheld will be covered in glass but it seems to have a matte finish instead of a glossy one. The video also shows the handheld will have a Snapdragon processor, a cooling fan, a large air inlet vent on the back, and two sets of outlet vents. The AYN Odin 3 will have two back buttons on the textured grips while the power button is recessed and seems to double as a fingerprint scanner.
AYN has not revealed any other technical specifications of the Odin 3 yet but we expect more details will surface soon. It is probably going to release the details in bits just like it did with the dual-screen AYN Thor.
