Following the ESRB rating, another sign hints at Metroid Prime 4: Beyond inching closer to release. A couple of testers, on contract with Retro Studios, have reportedly completed working on the game.

Ever since the initial announcement from 2017, Metroid Prime 4 has remained under wraps with minimal updates on development. In 2024, the game was updated with the title Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and a claimed 2025 release date. While Nintendo continues to remain silent on a launch date, there are signs that hint at the development process nearing completion, suggesting the game will not be delayed to 2026.

As spotted and shared by user hushpolocaps69 on Reddit, two game testers who were working on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond have reportedly wrapped up with the game and are looking for new projects. One of the testers, Edwin A., clearly mentions working on Metroid Prime 4 in his LinkedIn bio and is currently on contract with Retro Studios, the company developing the game. The second tester, Amanda Patterson, also on contract with the studio, has been working on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond as well. Both have the ‘#opentowork’ profile update.

It should be noted that neither of the two testers have explicitly mentioned wrapping up Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Furthermore, this doesn’t necessarily suggest that there cannot be any more delays. Nintendo itself has not shared an exact release date, only a 2025 window. With only four months left in the year, if there were to be a reveal, it could happen pretty soon with a release date set for closer to the end of the year. Interestingly, a recent report stated that Nintendo is planning a major Direct event for mid-September so we could get an update fairly soon.

At Gamescom 2025, some testers went hands-on with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond but their experience was lukewarm. Krysta from the Kit & Krysta podcast did not enjoy the mouse mode and found using the Joy-Cons as mice to be uncomfortable. Beyond the controls, Krysta felt that the demo failed to capture the loneliness of Samus and that the graphics looked faded.

Furthermore, she also pointed out that Nintendo has presented the same demo for several months now so it is unclear what progress the game has made towards release. However, the recent ESRB rating and now the testers allegedly wrapping up does hint at the game inching closer to launch.
