OnePlus Open 2: "World's next thinnest foldable smartphone" tipped to be made with titanium
Oppo's Find N5 for the Chinese market is also thought to re-brand as the OnePlus Open 2 for a global audience - and to do so as soon as February 2025. Should it do so, the device might have the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered foldable smartphone market to itself for a whole 6 months thereafter, according to the typically reliable leaker Smart Pikachu.
The tipster concurs with similarly famous leaker Digital Chat Station in asserting that it will also be thinner than its successor - in fact, it will be the slimmest of its kind in the world on its launch, according to the latter.
The "Open 2" is also tipped to pack a battery of nearly 6,000mAh, triple Hasselblad-branded rear cameras (a periscope zoom lens included) and wireless charging nonetheless - potentially substantial upgrades on even the well-received previous generation, if true.
Furthermore, Digital Chat Station also purports to disclose that "titanium is used" in the construction of the Open 2 - a machine-translated comment that could invite speculation that the next-gen device will have edges like those of top-end yet non-foldable conventional handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra or iPhone 16 Pro Max.
However, it should be noted that the the existing OnePlus Open (currently available for $1,299.99 on Amazon) also comes with some titanium reinforcement, albeit in the less visible location of its 'million-fold' spine.
Accordingly, there is no guarantee that the brand might hype its second-gen foldable as its first with a premium frame to go with its sophisticated design at this point - in fact, the high-end metal might indeed have the more practical application of enhancing the Open 2's durability, as its latest leaks suggest.
