Under a week has passed since South Korean media offered new insights into the state of Samsung's first tri-fold smartphone. In summary, the Sisa Journal reported that Samsung planned to create 300,000 units of its Mate XT rival, thereby restricting it to a limited run release.
For context, production volumes this low would see Samsung creating a single tri-fold for every thirty Galaxy Z Fold6 smartphones it manufactures (curr. $1,264 on Amazon). Production estimates for the newer Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition and Samsung W25 are unknown, although it seems that Samsung initially sold the pair in batches.
According to Ross Young, Samsung may still be on track for a Q1 2026 release, at least in some capacity. Conversely, The Elec believes that the company may be targeting a 2025 release, with mass production scheduled for Q2 2025.
Either way, the same website claims that Samsung will produce a mere 200,000 units, or a tenth of the Galaxy Z Fold7 smartphones it plans to sell. In comparison, The Elec writes that Samsung is aiming to manufacture 3 million Galaxy Z Flip7 units but just 900,000 of the Galaxy Z Flip FE.
