The OnePlus Open 2 is one of the most anticipated foldable smartphones in 2025, which is no surprise considering the manufacturer's first foldable smartphone was well-received. While there have been multiple reports about the Android foldable, a new leak has provided what is believed to be a first look at the device.
The renders, which were first posted by Smartprix, show the rear of the OnePlus Open 2 and its unfolded state. According to the source, the renders are based on a late-stage prototype which means the production model may end up looking a bit different.
Visually, the OnePlus Open 2 hasn't changed from the OnePlus Open. The renders show that the main folding display still has a punch hole at the top right corner for a front-facing camera while the back of the phone retains a triple rear camera setup housed in a circular camera island. However, the sensors have been rearranged and are now at the 3 9, and 12-hour marks. On the OnePlus Open, the rear cameras are positioned at the 6, 9, and 12-hour marks. The LED flash still sits outside the camera island and the Hasselblad logo still remains.
Where the major changes have been made are in the dimensions. For starters, the OnePlus Open 2 is reported to be slimmer than its predecessor, measuring under 10mm when folded compared to the OnePlus Open's 11.7mm. It is also expected to launch with an IPX8 water resistance rating, an upgrade over the IPX4 of the previous generation.
With respect to specifications, the OnePlus Open is rumored to have both a larger cover display and main display — a 6.4-inch cover screen and an 8.0-inch main display. It is also expected to have a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.
There are also reports it will have an IPX8 wtaer resistance rating, an improvement over the IPX4 rating of the OnePlus Open; triple 50MP cameras, and a 5,900mAh battery which is not only significantly bigger than the 4,805mAh inside its predecessor but also the 4,650mAh battery inside the Pixel 9 Pro Fold (curr. available for $1,499 on Amazon). A leak also revealed that it will have support for wireless charging, a feature not available on the OnePlus Open.
Unconfirmed reports have said OnePlus should launch the Open 2 first in China in early Q1 2025 before a global launch later the same quarter. Like its predecessor which is a rebadge of the Oppo Find N3, the OnePlus Open 2 should also be available with an Oppo badge as the Find N5.
