Looks like the OnePlus 15 is unable to keep the beastly Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC cool when recording high quality videos. But what’s worse is that the company doesn’t want the public to know about it. At least that’s what it seems like from an update shared by a tipster going hands on with the OnePlus 15.
Leaker Debayan Roy has been sharing updates about the OnePlus 15 on X as they have been testing the flagship. Having shared updates about the build quality, speakers, haptics, raw performance, and other aspects, Roy moved on to testing the cameras. What they experienced was that the phone apparently reached 50 degrees Celsius and stopped recording. It then disabled the camera for five minutes. This happened after successfully testing the cameras indoors, and a four-to-five-hour gap between the indoor and outdoor tests.
What apparently followed shortly after the post was OnePlus asking Roy to take it down. The leaker shared on X that OnePlus made them delete the post about the cameras. They also mentioned that it was a review unit and they will not be posting the full review as they had initially planned. OnePlus has not chimed in yet, nor has the leaker shared the dialogue they had with the company.
This isn’t the first instance of the OnePlus 15 overheating. Roy also shared last week that while benchmarking the phone in 3D Mark Wild Life and AnTuTu, the phone was unable to complete either due to overheating issues. YouTuber Max Tech also encountered overheating issues during 3D Mark Wild Life Extreme Stress Test but that was after successful completion of a couple other benchmarks.
The OnePlus 15 launched in China last month and then globally on November 13, though the US market was not part of that launch. While its endurance thanks to the massive battery and rapid charging speeds are outclassing the iPhone 17 Pro Max and other flagship devices, the cooling system seems to be struggling with the SoC under heavy loads.
