Max Tech has pitted the OnePlus 15 against the iPhone 17 Pro Max to see which one comes out on top. At one point in the synthetic benchmark segment, OnePlus's new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship failed to keep up, as it overheated and crashed during testing.

The OnePlus 15 is now global, and it's one of the first Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship phones to launch outside China. This international launch has brought out more in-depth looks at the phone, and in one new video, the phone failed to keep up during a stress test.

This video, which comes from Max Tech, puts the OnePlus 15 and iPhone 17 Pro Max against each other. As the YouTuber states in the first half of the footage, OnePlus's new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 smartphone stands as a solid flagship phone, with decent speakers, display, and build quality.

As for the performance, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the OnePlus 15 held its ground quite well in the initial synthetic benchmarks. However, during a continuous stress test, the phone overheated and crashed.

To be specific, after successfully passing a couple of benchmarks, the OnePlus 15 couldn't finish the Wild Life Extreme Stress Test from 3DMark. The iPhone 17 Pro Max, on the other hand, was able to complete the test without any issues, but the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship phone had to disable many features, such as hotspot and flashlight, to ensure the temperature doesn't rise further.

Max Tech checked out the temperature with a thermal camera, and the OnePlus 15 had a reading of up to 52° C (125° F). The thermal footage also shows that the phone doesn't distribute the heat evenly throughout the surface (Black Shark FunCooler 5 Neo curr. $19.75 on Amazon). In comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro Max reached around 40° C (104° F), and it was able to spread the heat evenly.

Of course, overheating wasn't an issue in the other parts of the test. For example, the OnePlus 15 was able to offer good overall gaming performance in the latter part of the video, and the temperature didn't go as high as earlier. You can learn more from the video attached below.
