Bethesda announced a new update for Starfield. It adds numerous QoL improvements, such as a city map, new ship customization options and added difficulty modifiers. Users in the Steam beta channel can download it now.

Bethesda has announced another major update for Starfield (version 1.11.33). It is rolling out for users on the beta channel (Steam) now and will be available for the stable version and Xbox Series X (no love for Series S players, unfortunately) later this month. For console players, this update finally unlocks the coveted 60 FPS mode via a new framerate toggle. You can pick between 30 and 60 FPS on regular TVs. 120 Hz panels with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) functionality have the option to go up to 120 Hz, although enabling comes at the cost of visual fidelity. Otherwise, you can lock your FPS at 40 if you want to enjoy the scenery.

Starfield Update 1.11.33 also brings some highly-demanded features, such as maps for local terrain. Previously, there was no way for one to find their way around a city and had to rely on memory/visual clues for navigation. Now, activating the scanner will highlight key areas on the map. In general, getting around areas (cities and otherwise) will be a lot easier now. Land vehicles for planets are also in the works, but will be introduced via a later update.

Other changes include further ship customization options. You can now redecorate the interior of your ship like you can outposts and a new inventory management system. You can now fully re-spec your character in New Game+, complete with new traits and a new look. Lastly, Starfield Update 1.11.33 also lets you fine-tune your difficulty and adds a new "Extreme" preset for a more challenging experience.

Overall, this update proves that Bethesda is listening to community feedback about Starfield. Exactly why it took them almost a year to add QoL features that should have been in the game at launch is a mystery, but it's a start nonetheless. Todd Howard recently confirmed the Shattered Space DLC will launch this Fall, and it'll be interesting to see what else Bethesda has in store for its new IP.
