New Samsung Galaxy S22 leak indicates another year of inconvenience for enthusiasts

While a launch date for the Galaxy S22 series is still up in the air, new information has now provided some details about the phones—details that are unlikely to thrill hardcore enthusiasts looking forwards to Samsung's next flagships.

According to leaker Front Tron, the Galaxy S22 series, codenamed "Rainbow", will lack MicroSD support. That shouldn't be surprising, as Samsung removed the feature on the Galaxy Note 20 series and stuck to that choice with the Galaxy S21 series. Fans of expandable storage may have to opt for the upcoming Galaxy S21 FE instead, although information on that phone remains conflicting.

Lack of expandable storage may be tolerable if onboard storage is adequate but it appears the Galaxy S22 series will offer the same memory and storage configurations as the Galaxy S21 lineup. That means 128 GB of storage as standard, with the option to go up to 256 GB or 512 GB on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Going by the source, RAM is also pegged at 8 GB on the S22 and the S22 Plus, with the S22 Ultra starting at 12 GB with the option of 16 GB. 

8 GB of RAM is considered by most to be enough but 128 GB of storage is simply inadequate in a world of 4K video and expansive mobile games. The solution is obvious and intentional: pony up extra cash for the 256 GB models.
