The reliable @FrontTron has re-published a photo of the Galaxy S22 Ultra's back panel, seemingly first spotted on Weibo. While the device is expected to feature a glass back panel rather than the metal one shown here, its shape and design are thought to be final.
Reputedly, Samsung has ditched large camera housing in favour of individual lens covers. Based on previous rumours, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will launch with an 108 MP primary camera, a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and dual 12 MP telephoto cameras. These latter two cameras are believed to offer 3x and 10x optical zoom, for reference. All rear-facing cameras should support optical image stabilisation (OIS), though.
Theoretically, Samsung could include an LED flash and a laser autofocus sensor in the fifth aperture. However, we suspect that retail units will have a sixth aperture for a separate LED flash. Overall, the Galaxy S22 Ultra looks like a cross between the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra but with no camera housing. Supposedly, Samsung has removed it to save weight for the built-in S Pen.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S22 Ultra early next year, possibly in February 2022. It and the rest of the Galaxy S22 series are tipped to arrive with an Exynos 2200 SoC and its integrated AMD RDNA 2 GPU. The Snapdragon 898 will be available in some markets, too.
