A new leak has revealed details of both the Snapdragon 898 and MediaTek's upcoming Dimensity 2000. Both chips are similar with a few notable differences, but those differences hint at the MediaTek chipset having a performance edge over Qualcomm's offering.

The Dimensity 2000 will be MediaTek's first true flagship SoC. Reports indicate that the chipset will be as much as 20% more efficient than Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 898 but it appears that isn't where MediaTek superiority ends, with a new leak providing information on what to expect from the two chips, performance-wise.

Going by popular tipster Digital Chat Station, the MediaTek Dimensity 2000 and Snapdragon 898 will look quite similar on paper but with a few differences. The Snapdragon 898 will be built on Samsung's 4 nm manufacturing process, while the Dimensity 2000 will use TSMC's 4 nm node. That, we expect, is where efficiency differences begin, with TSMC's nodes being a bit better than Samsung's over the last few years.

The Snapdragon 898 is said to feature one Cortex X2 core clocked at 3.0 GHz, three large cores clocked at 2.5 GHz, and four small cores clocked at 1.79 GHz. The Dimensity 2000, on the other hand, is tipped for a Cortex X2 core at 3.0 GHz, three large cores at 2.85 GHz, and four small cores at 1.8 GHz. On the GPU side, the Snapdragon 898 uses Qualcomm's Adreno 730, while the Dimensity 2000 uses ARM's Mali-G710 MC10.

The Dimensity 2000's large cores are clocked higher, while its X2 and small cores run at essentially the same speeds as the Snapdragon 898's. That should see the Dimensity 2000 offer a bit more performance, especially in regular use. There is, of course, the caveat of increased power draw, but TSMC's expectedly more efficient node should make up for that.
