New Harry Potter multiplayer game possible after Hogwarts Legacy developer posts job listings

A new Harry Potter game may be more of a social experience than Hogwarts Legacy. Warner Bros. Games has posted job listings for a mysterious online RPG. The Avalanche Software project would give the publisher another chance for a successful multiplayer title.
As popular as Hogwarts Legacy is, the game remains a single-player experience without mods. Some players have requested a multiplayer or co-op option to team up with fellow wizards. With Hogwarts Legacy 2 already in the works, there is the potential for Avalanche Software to add these modes. However, after the developer posted job listings for an online multiplayer RPG, a new Harry Potter game seems more likely.
The X0XLEAK X account noticed new Warner Bros. Discovery job ads for positions that include Executive Producer and Game Director. The Executive Producer listing mentions producing a "high-quality Online Multiplayer RPG, from concept to launch and beyond." The remainder of the ad highlights the necessary skills and experience required for multiplayer gaming.

It can't be ruled out that the new title has nothing to do with the Harry Potter franchise. Avalanche Software has worked on other projects, including Disney Infinity. Still, with Warner Bros. Games struggling financially, the publisher is turning to successful games of the past. These include a new single-player Batman: Arkham title developed by Rocksteady Studios. Also, TT Games may be creating a fresh LEGO game, likely based on a popular IP.
Hogwarts Legacy was a rare success story for WB Games over the past few years, selling more than 30 million copies. The company is not currently in the mindset to take risks, so tasking Avalanche Software with a new Harry Potter game makes sense.
The recent X0XLEAK leak also mentioned a survey for a playtest, which consisted of multiplayer-oriented questions. Gaming CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, J.B. Perrette, revealed last year that it could shift away from single-player titles: "Rather than just launching a one-and-done console game, how do we develop a game around, for example, a Hogwarts Legacy or Harry Potter, that is a live-service where people can live and work and build and play in that world in an ongoing basis."
Despite criticism of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice, most thriving multiplayer RPGs have live-service elements. Warner Bros. Games may be counting on a reimagined Harry Potter title to conjure up a steady stream of revenue.
