We now have official confirmation regarding Casio's previously-rumored origami-inspired G-Shock watches. The new models - DW-5600RGM-1 and DW-6900RGM-5 - will join the brand’s diverse limited edition lineup. This new info adds more clarity to earlier leaks and clears up doubts around design specifics, features, and the overall Japan-focused execution.
Both watches celebrate the spirit of origami, with design cues referencing the popular technique of intricate Japanese paper folding. The bezel and strap have printed patterns and faux stitching, resembling the layered, folded look of washi paper. The watches use mountain and valley folds, while retaining the G-Shock's classic rugged build. A prominent element is the origami crane, which is a symbol of peace and infinite possibilities in Japanese culture. The crane appears as a luminous detail in the backlight and is etched into the stainless steel caseback.
It’s not just the watches, however. Casio has given special attention to packaging, producing boxes that cleverly mimic origami folds and paper texture. The DW-5600RGM-1 comes in a black colorway, while the DW-6900RGM-5 arrives in white, both sporting the stitch-pattern graphics and crane accents. Both models are equipped with including 200-meter water resistance, resin construction, and the full suite of digital functions.
Reportedly, these origami-themed watches are produced in Japan. Pricing is set at ¥19,800 (~$129). While Japan is the core launch market it seems, earlier trends pertaining to older "Manga" G-Shocks imply international availability is likely.
