The Casio 'Manga' CasiOak, which is one of 2024’s most popular G-Shock models, has now entered the era where it can be officially deemed a collectors' item, with its prices soaring to more than twice its original retail value. Originally released in May 2024, the GA-2100MNG series instantly caught the eye of both watch and manga fans - all thanks to its unique hand-drawn manga art style and the revered 'CasiOak' design and feature set.
The Manga CasiOak is based on the widely loved GA-2100 series, nicknamed "CasiOak" due to its octagonal bezel resembling Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak. The Manga Edition was a bold departure from the typical G-Shock designs. It features thick black outlines, screentone shading, and comic-style speech bubbles. Even the case back features an engraved "Don!"—a classic Japanese onomatopoeia found in manga. Needless to say, it's a watch that has a strong wrist presence.
While Casio has not formally declared the Manga CasiOak as discontinued, sources based on Great G-Shock World's report indicate that its production has effectively ceased. The watch was marketed with a strong focus on Japanese culture and was manufactured domestically, which might have added to its appeal as a Japan-exclusive release, as we've seen with other similar releases as well. The watch's sudden scarcity has resulted in a steep rise in resale prices, with some listings reaching three times the original retail price of ¥25,300 ($170).
Both the GA-2100MNG-2AJR (blue) and GA-2100MNG-7AJR (white) variants are now reportedly difficult to find at regular retail stores. As a result, collectors and fans are flocking to secondary markets such as Yahoo! Auctions and Rakuten.
Potential buyers might have to act quickly before prices climb even further. Meanwhile, G-Shock retailers should occasionally be receiving limited restocks, so if you're an interested buyer, it might be worth checking frequently for availability.
