Casio has finally brought the G-Shock GW-5000HS-1 and GW-5000HS-7 watches to the US. These new models honor the legacy of the OG G-Shock (launched in 1983) and retain the classic face design, the iconic brick pattern, the screw-lock case back, and familiar mode indicators that enthusiasts have come to love.
The G-Shock GW-5000HS-7 is the most striking of the two and sports a single-tone crisp white colorway along with a non-inverted display. Notably, it’s also the first-ever non-black watch in the GW5000 series. Meanwhile, the GW-5000HS-1 maintains the classic black design and comes with an inverted LCD (also known as a negative display) for a stealthier look.
Both watches are made at the “mother” Yamagata Casio factory in Japan—the birthplace of G-Shock—and feature a metal case and a screw-lock back cover finished with DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating for added durability. They also feature a rubber band made out of bio-based resin.
Elsewhere, the G-Shock GW-5000HS series packs in advanced features like Tough Solar power, Multi-band 6 support for radio-controlled, ultra-precise timekeeping, Super Illuminator LED lighting for easier readability in the dark, and 200-meter water resistance. You also get the usual set of watch features like World Time across 31 time zones and 48 cities, a 24-hour countdown timer, five daily alarms with a snooze function, a full auto calendar, a 1/100-second stopwatch, and a battery indicator.
The G-Shock GW-5000HS series is now available on Casio’s website for $300. Both models join the GW-5000U-1, which launched in 2021 and is currently sold out in the U.S. They also made their way to the UK and Europe just recently.
