A new leak from reliable tipster Geesgshock (via Instagram) has given us our first look at Casio’s upcoming G-Shock GMW-B5000D-1C watch. The new model will join the exisisting GMW-B5000D-1, which was launched all the way back in April 2018.
As you can see in the leaked render below, the overall design of the GMW-B5000D-1C looks to be pretty identical to the B5000D-1, complete with a positive display. However, there's one key difference here: a striking red line around its metal case in a nod to the original G-Shock design.
If you’re getting strong “I’ve seen this before” vibes, you’re not alone. The red line, combined with the full-metal build and familiar brick-patterned display, bears a striking resemblance to Casio’s ultra-expensive MRG-B5000D-1, which commands $3,500. In a way, the GMW-B5000D-1C could offer G-Shock enthusiasts a chance to enjoy the aesthetic appeal of the luxury model at what will likely be a significantly more accessible price point.
Not much else is known about the G-Shock GMW-B5000D-1C watch at this point, except that it will be launching later this year. While the leak doesn't shed light on the specs, it's reasonable to expect the new model will retain the robust features characteristic of the series. That means we can look forward to the usual likes of solar charging, 200-meter water resistance, Multi-Band 6 radio-controlled timekeeping, shock resistance, and Bluetooth connectivity. We'll keep our eyes peeled and be sure to let you know if more details emerge.
