Tissot, the Swiss watchmaker, has expanded its solar offerings by launching a new solar-powered Tissot PRC 100 Solar timepiece. The Tissot PRC 100 collection consists of three variants, including a silver, a blue, and a full-black with a matching black dial and bracelet as well. In case you don’t know, PRC is an acronym that stands for “Precise, Robust, and Classic.”
The highlight of the new PRC 100 Solar is its Lightmaster Solar Quartz movement, which Tissot says is adept at absorbing both natural and artificial light through honeycomb-structured solar cells integrated beneath sapphire crystal. The Lightmaster caliber F06.615 quartz movement can run for 14 months once fully charged. Tissot also claims that ten minutes of natural light charge the watch for 24 hours.
Design-wise, Tissot keeps things simple and distinctive. The PRC 100 sports a 39 mm stainless steel case with a dodecagonal bezel, a right-positioned screw-down, and a date window at a 3 o’clock position. The classic silver/blue/black dial is adorned with Super-LumiNova-coated baton hour marks and hands, which ensure better visibility even in low-light conditions. Dimensionally, it’s 9.22 mm (0.36 inches) thick and weighs 62 grams (0.13 lbs), which is way lighter than Casio’s 92 grams (0.20 lbs) Duro MDV-106.
Furthermore, the timepiece has a sapphire crystal on top to protect it from accidental scratches and falls. Plus, Tissot’s new solar-powered model ships with 100 m (10 bar) water resistance, meaning it can easily withstand normal water conditions. Tissot offers two strap choices: a stainless steel bracelet and a leather strap.
The Tissot PRC 100 Solar is now available via Tissot’s official website and other authorized retailers for $495. Plus, Tissot also confirms the release of smaller 34 mm variants with a two-tone and full yellow gold PVD, which is coming later this year.
