One of the most beloved Casio models is the G-Shock GW-5000U-1, which has a veritable cult following. The watch has made a surprise return to the company’s official stores in the US and Japan after months of rumors that it is being discontinued. Customers can now buy directly from Casio online, ending a long spell of unavailability.
Casio states the GW-5000U-1 evolved from the original 1983 G-Shock, and it has won lots of fans with its retro design. The watch also features Tough Solar charging, Multiband 6 atomic timekeeping, a metal case and screw back made of DLC (diamond-like), and a resin band.
Fans, however, might want to keep their enthusiasm in check about the restock. There are hints that Casio is limiting it to its own official channels. For example, big retailers in Japan, such as Bic Camera, still state that the model is suspended. The watch also cannot be purchased directly from Amazon Japan.
The Casio G-Shock GW-5000U-1 is currently available for $330 on the company’s US store. However, it is expected to sell out fast due to anticipation for its return.
