Marvel's Spider-Man 2, originally developed by Insomniac Games in collaboration with Nixxes Software, launched on PlayStation 5 (available on Amazon for $525) in October 2023. This open-world action game lets players control both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, the younger Spider-Man with unique bio-electric abilities. The story shifts between the two as they face new threats together. On January 30, the game finally launched on PC and is available on Steam and the Epic Games Store for $60 (Standard Edition) or $70 (Digital Deluxe Edition).
The absence of pre-orders and marketing raised doubts about the port’s quality, concerns that have now been validated. While the game currently leads Steam’s "New and Trending" charts, player reviews tell a different story. In just one day, the open-world Marvel title received over 1,500 reviews, with only 55% being positive. Compared to the highly rated PS5 version on Metacritic, the reception has been underwhelming.
The mixed reviews stem from severe technical issues. Many players report crashes every 5 to 10 minutes, even on high-end hardware. Graphics features are a major concern, DLSS causes visual glitches like flickering shadows and hair, while ray tracing puts an unusually heavy load on the GPU. Even top-tier cards like the RTX 4090 struggle with severe FPS drops and loading times remain unexpectedly long, even on fast NVMe SSDs. Given these problems, player frustration is understandable, as such technical flaws significantly impact the experience and have sparked heated discussions on Reddit.
