These days, smartwatches come with very capable hardware, enabling them to run many apps and perform many advanced tasks. As Redditor ZenonDesingk has showcased, it's even possible to run old-school games on the flagship wearables. To be exact, the Redditor was able to run PSP titles on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5.
This smartwatch is powered by the Exynos W920, which isn't the most capable watch SoC out there, but it's quite capable of handling wearable-related tasks. As for running games, the Redditor first tried to get a PSP emulator to run directly on the watch, but initial sideloading efforts were not fruitful.
That's when the Redditor turned to Bugjaeger. For those wondering, Bugjaeger is an ADB tool for debugging Android devices. After installing it, the Redditor was able to get a PSP emulator onto the Galaxy Watch 5. As ZenonDesingk shares, the Redditor was able to run various games at smooth 60 FPS.
However, some of the relatively demanding games, such as God of War: Chains of Olympus, occasionally dipped to 30 FPS, which is very playable. But then again, the small display of the smartwatch demands a wireless controller (8Bitdo Ultimate 2C curr. $25.99 on Amazon), as on-screen controls don't make sense on such a setup.
Of course, Zenon did realize that the smartwatch wasn't meant for this type of gaming. So, the Redditor later did a factory reset and started to use the Galaxy Watch 5 as a regular wearable. Regardless, it's still impressive to see these games running on such non-native hardware.
