MSI Prestige 16 AI+ C3MTG runs significantly quieter on Balanced mode, but there's a catch

MSI is refreshing its entire lineup of Prestige laptops this year complete with Intel Panther Lake as detailed during their CES 2026 reveal. After having just reviewed one of them, the redesigned lineup is looking very promising with significant efficiency and performance gains especially in terms of graphics. However, you'll want to keep a close eye on your selected power profile as they appear to impact overall performance more than usual.
During our time with the new Prestige 16 AI+ C3MTG, we found that running on Balanced mode instead of Performance mode would reduce performance by as much as 20 to 25 percent. GPU clock rates when running Cyberpunk 2077, for example, would fall from 2500 MHz to 1850 MHz or lower for a noticeable hit to frame rates. If you want to squeeze as much performance as possible from your new Prestige, then you'll want to open up MSI Center and make sure Performance mode is set.
On the other hand, users who don't need all that performance have at least one major reason for running on Balanced mode. Fan noise would top out at just under 30 dB(A) even when gaming compared to well over 40 dB(A) if on Performance mode on the vast majority of other laptops. Thus, while the performance deficit isn't minor, the noise difference is substantial and may be worth the cost.
