The Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 1 did really well in our review, achieving a respectable overall score of 89%. While it still has the form factor and convenient features that on-the-go productivity workloads demand, there’s no denying that the specs of that 2021 convertible are quite dated.
Well, the good news is that Lenovo has finally updated the ThinkPad X12 Detachable, and the Gen 2 now stands as a very capable productivity laptop tablet. It packs the recently launched Intel Core Ultra U-series processors, a solid upgrade from the 2021 Gen 1 convertible.
Paired with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 1 TB of PCIe 4 SSD, the Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 has what it takes to handle most productive workloads. But as the convertible is powered by the U-series Intel Meteor Lake processors, it doesn’t have the Intel Arc iGPU that H-series CPUs enjoy.
So, the ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 shouldn’t be mistaken as a competitor to the newly launched Minisforum V3, which is more for on-the-go gaming. Instead, it is more for a mobile productivity-focused lifestyle, just like the Microsoft Surface Pro 9 (Core i7 variant curr. $1,180.44 on Amazon).
Nonetheless, the Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 still comes with the folio keyboard that the Gen 1 tablet computer came with. This lets you easily convert it to a lightweight business laptop. It also has the same lightweight and portable chassis as its predecessor, measuring just 8.8 mm in thickness.
As for the connectivity ports, the ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 has one nano SIM, one audio combo jack, one USB-C 10 Gbps, and one USB-C with Thunderbolt 4. Both the USB-C ports have Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 2.1 support.
The expected starting price of the ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2, as described by Lenovo, is $1,399, and it should be available starting from April 2024. Check the spec sheet attached below to learn more.
