MWC 2024 | ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop: Hands-on with Lenovo's first attempt at building a transparent laptop
Lenovo has now offered up its first transparent laptop, a few weeks after first glimpses of the device leaked online. As expected, the company is referring to the ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop as a 'proof of concept', adding:
The Lenovo ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop is not only a proof of concept but showcases a futuristic perspective on AI PCs, blending digital and physical environments that can enhance user experiences in ways never imagined.

In other words, Lenovo is unlikely to ever release the ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop in the form shown today at MWC 2024. Nonetheless, we got a chance to try a working prototype during Lenovo's product showcase in Barcelona. While the ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop looks slim and light, its 17.3-inch displays contribute to the device having an estimated weight of between 3 kg and 4 kg.
Additionally, Lenovo claims to have sourced Micro-LED panels that combine 1,000-nit peak brightness and 'high colour saturation'. However, the company's press release neglects to mention that the panels output at 720p, which looks particularly pixelated across a 17.3-inch canvas. On top of that, Lenovo's 'high colour saturation' exhibits a strong red tint for now. Unfortunately, it is unclear when the ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop will be shown again or if Lenovo has plans to commercialise another version of it any time soon.
