Powerful 16-inch OLED gaming laptop with 20-core Arrow Lake-HX CPU
This variant of the Legion Pro 5i comes equipped with 16 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and a 1 TB PCIe Gen 4 TLC SSD, both of which are easily upgradeable. The 20-core Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX CPU powering the laptop is a very powerful CPU, and should be able to outperform an Intel Core i9 14900HX in synthetic benchmarks.
Our in-depth review of the Legion Pro 5i gaming laptop with a higher-end CPU was free of any major complaints regarding CPU performance, with the system demonstrating good sustained performance as well. The GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU with only 8 GB of GDDR7 VRAM may not be adequate for future-proofing or even high-fidelity gaming, but 1080p at high settings should be perfectly doable, and the same goes for QHD gaming with slightly lower settings.
The 16-inch 2560 x 1600 OLED display with a refresh rate of 165 Hz is excellent for gaming, with peak full-screen brightness of over 520 nits. The panel covers 99.9% of the P3 color gamut, which makes it decent for content creation and consumption as well, especially once calibrated.
That said, folks who would prefer a 240 Hz IPS panel and are willing to sacrifice some CPU performance can check out a different SKU of the Legion Pro 5i linked here, also available with a massive 42% discount.
Fan noise is pretty loud under intense load, but our testing did reveal that they spool down pretty quickly as well. Battery life is acceptable, lasting up to 5 hours in our WiFi web surfing test with the screen set to 150 nits of brightness and 60 Hz refresh rate. The laptop features a rather small 80 Wh pack, which gives several competitors with larger batteries the upper hand in this regard.
