Lenovo has discounted another quite attractive machine after notable deals for the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition and ThinkStation P3 might have garnered some attention from prospective buyers who are looking for a decent bargain. Now, enthusiasts with a budget of roughly $2,000 should make sure to check out the ThinkPad T1g.
To be more exact, the Lenovo ThinkPad T1g Gen 8 has just dropped to an all-time low price of $1,949 thanks to a 21% markdown at Lenovo's official online store. This configuration comes with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H and Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 8GB GDDR7 VRAM. Lenovo further opted for 32GB DDR5 RAM as well as a 1TB SSD and a very bright 4K IPS display with up to 800 nits and 100% DCI-P3 color space coverage. Users who don't need as much CPU performance can alternatively grab the Intel Ultra 7 265H-powered model variant for $140 less.
In any case, it's worth reading our detailed review of the ThinkPad T1g Gen 8 before placing an order. Lenovo fans are probably aware that this 16-inch laptop is the successor to the discontinued ThinkPad X1 Extreme, which explains the very high build quality, high performance and fantastic input devices.
On the other hand, the OLED screen of our review unit looked somewhat grainy, but that downside won't apply to the 4K IPS SKU that's on sale here. However, users should note that the ThinkPad T1g only supports up to 64GB of memory and doesn't support 5G or SmartCards. Despite these shortcomings, this is a good discount for a very fast 16-inch machine that should easily handle the vast majority of workloads, including demanding multimedia applications such as 4K video editing.
