Samsung's next Galaxy Unpacked event is right around the corner, having been scheduled for January 22 in San Jose. In short, the company is expected to release the Galaxy S25 series with direct successors to last year's Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra (curr. $856.99 on Amazon). While the Galaxy S25 trio are not official just yet, rumours about the Galaxy S26 series have already started appearing online.
For instance, there have been suggestions that Samsung may finally move its Galaxy S smartphones onto 65 W wired and 50 W wireless charging with the Galaxy S26 series. Next year's Galaxy S release may also adopt silicon-carbon (Si/C) battery technology, which could yield up to 7,000 mAh capacities in some Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 flagships.
Reportedly, Samsung may introduce a new telephoto camera as part of launching the Galaxy S26 Ultra too. For context, the company switched to a 50 MP and 5x telephoto camera for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which has a 1/2.52-inch optical format. Allegedly, this new telephoto camera could combine a 200 MP native output with a larger 1/1.5-inch optical format for improved light sensitivity.
There is no guarantee that this sensor will make its way to retail units, though. Instead, it seems that this sensor is only being 'evaluated' for now. In the meantime, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to launch later this week with a new ultra-wide-angle camera, albeit with no other camera hardware changes.
