A new report has reiterated that the Galaxy Z Fold7 may lose a feature compared to Samsung's current Galaxy Z Fold6. Potentially, the Galaxy Z Fold7 may actually follow in the footsteps of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which is still difficult to come by outside China and South Korea.

A new report has doubled down on a change for the Galaxy Z Fold series that Samsung may implement with its seventh-generation release. To recap, Samsung has offered S Pen support on all its mainline Galaxy Z Fold smartphones from the Galaxy Z Fold3 onwards, including last year's Galaxy Z Fold6 (curr. $1,269.99 - renewed on Amazon).

However, that support ended with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which is sold in South Korea and as the Samsung W25 in China. Allegedly, the removal of a digitizer helped Samsung achieve over a 12% reduction in device thickness, albeit only to 4.9 mm when open and 10.6 mm when closed.

According to The Elec, previous reports about the digitizer's removal are accurate. The outlet does offer a caveat of sorts. Apparently, there is a 'high chance' of this occurring, which leaves the door open for its inclusion. Ultimately, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is shaping up to be the global version of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition but with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. The Galaxy Z Fold7 may arrive with the new 7-core variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, though.
