Qualcomm stealthily unveiled a cut-down Snapdragon 8 Elite variant a few days ago. It came with 7 CPU cores instead of 8. The device was tailor-made for devices with limited cooling capabilities, such as foldable smartphones. Now, we get to see it in action alongside the Oppo Find N5 aka OnePlus Open 2.
The new Snapdragon 8 Elite scores 3,083 in Geekbench 6.1's single-core tests - on par with its 8-core counterpart. In multi-core, it scores 8,865 points, making it about 6% slower if we use our benchmark database's median figure (9,404) as a reference. This particular Oppo Find N5 variant packs 16 GB of RAM and runs Android 15 out of the box.
Overall, the trade between multi-core performance and better thermals is an acceptable one because it will let the Snapdragon 8 Elite sustain its clocks for a bit longer. The Oppo Find N5 will be one of the thinnest foldable smartphones to launch in 2025, and it is expected to debut sometime in February. So far, this is the only device confirmed to launch with Qualcomm's lower-binned silicon, but it is only a matter of time before more show up.
