The Xiaomi 15 series initially introduced two phones: a standard and a Pro. However, like the past lineups, it's expected to have an Ultra model, which could make its debut at the upcoming MWC 2025 event, and it could feature an in-house "Small Surge" chip.
Now, this isn't the same self-developed smartphone SoC that the previous reports have talked about. That rumored SoC was deemed to be a successor to the Surge S1, which made its debut in 2017 inside the Mi 5c. As for the "Small Surge" chip, it's also said to be self-developed, but it's thought to be an image processor.
Of course, the leaker who shared this info, @That_Kartikey, didn't specify the purpose of the "Small Surge" chip inside the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. It can even be a gaming chip similar to the one found inside the Redmi K80 Pro. However, given that Xiaomi's upcoming flagship phone would be camera-centric, it could very well be an image processor instead.
If that stands true, it will be interesting to see how well the Xiaomi 15 Ultra stacks up against the upcoming Vivo X200 Ultra, which is also expected to feature an in-house imaging chip. As for the rumored Xiaomi's 3nm SoC that is reportedly under development, one of the recent reports suggested it could debut inside the Xiaomi 15S Pro.
That specific report has further shared that the in-house Xiaomi smartphone SoC could rely on a MediaTek modem, and it could be named Surge S2 "XRing." Given that MWC 2025 is less than two months away, more information about the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and its "Small Surge" chip could surface soon.
