Latest MIUI 12.5 build adds even more RAM to the Poco F3, Mi 10 and Mi 11 series
A few weeks ago, Xiaomi began rolling out an update to the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G. That update offered a rather unique feature that allowed owners of the device to add more RAM to their phones by using a part of their available storage. Xiaomi is now expanding that feature rollout to include its flagship phones.
While the update for the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G rolled out in stable beta form, this build is currently exclusive to Chinese closed beta users. The update is currently available for the Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, Mi 10 Ultra, Mi 11, Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra, Poco F3, and Mi 11i. Xiaomi's Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 888 devices, essentially. It's only available as a MIUI 12.5 build. Also, while the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G's take allows a maximum of 1 GB of RAM to be added, this implementation allows for up to 3 GB.
While this is a handy feature to have, it's a bit curious that Xiaomi is implementing this on its flagship phones. The phones that get this feature in this form all already have upwards of 8 GB of RAM and most would consider that to be adequate. One would expect Xiaomi to focus on its mid-range and budget phones that typically ship with way less RAM.
