LG has updated its UltraGear gaming monitor series with the UltraGear OLED 27GX790A. Released in the US, the UltraGear OLED 27GX790A spans 27-inches, and offers a 1440p resolution with a 480 Hz refresh rate and an 80 Gbps capable DisplayPort 2.1 connection, unlike its peers.

LG has refreshed its UltraGear monitor range with a new OLED option. To recap, the company has introduced numerous W-OLED gaming this year of varying sizes, refresh rates and resolutions, including the huge UltraGear OLED 45GS96QB. Now, the UltraGear OLED 27GX790A can be added to that list, albeit only in the US so far.

As its name suggests, it utilises a 27-inch panel just like the UltraGear OLED 27GS95QE. The UltraGear OLED 27GX790A combines a 1440p resolution with a 480 Hz though, making it twice as fast as the UltraGear OLED 27GS95QE in this regard. In other words, LG has sourced the same panel for the UltraGear OLED 27GX790A that Asus and Sony use in the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDP and Inzone M10S (curr. $1,099.99 on Amazon).

However, LG's monitor is the only of the three to feature an 80 Gbps-capable DisplayPort 2.1 port (UHBR20). Theoretically, this allows the UltraGear OLED 27GX790A to provide an uncompressed 1440p and 480 Hz image. Unfortunately, there are no accompanying consumer graphics cards that take advantage of DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20.

As a result, the UltraGear OLED 27GX790A must utilise Display Stream Compression (DSC) and DisplayPort 1.4 to reach 480 Hz at 1440p. LG's new monitor appears to share other features with its contemporaries though, including 0.03 ms GtG response times and 275 nits full panel brightness. Currently, the UltraGear OLED 27GX790A is only available through LG itself, where it is available for $999.99, making it $100 more expensive than the UltraGear OLED 27GS95QE.
