Over a decade has passed since TCL started developing Inkjet Printing (IJP) based OLED panels. However, the company has finally started mass producing what are now said to be cheaper thanks to a new manufacturing process under a new APEX brand name. Allegedly, TCL has also reached the stage where it quickly adapt its IJP OLED panels into more formats than those it has shown at this year's Global Display Tech-ecosystem Conference (DTC 2024).
According to the company, these new IJP OLED panels are twice as efficient as earlier examples. Moreover, TCL claims to have halved internal reflections, thereby reducing power consumption at the same brightness as traditional OLED panels. Meanwhile, the company's press release also speaks of improved panel longevity and superior image quality.
However, it has not provided any further details in this regard. Thus, we would recommend waiting for independent reviews of IJP OLED panels before passing judgment in this regard. TCL has confirmed that its new panels deliver over a 300 PPI pixel density, though.
To that end, it has showcased a 21.6-inch option that outputs at 4K with an alleged 99% DCI-P3 colour space coverage. Meanwhile, it has also presented a 14-inch example that combines a 2.8K resolution with a 30-120 Hz variable refresh rate and 85% BT.2020 colour space coverage. Unfortunately, brightness values for both panels remain unknown for the time being, as does when these panels will be available for consumers.
