Garmin has expanded its Descent series of bike computers. As the company's images show, the Descent X50i looks nothing like last year's Descent G1 Solar Ocean Edition (curr. $554.99 on Amazon). Arguably though, the latter looked like a regular smartwatch.
By contrast, the Descent X50i has a 3-inch colour display that outputs at 640 x 360 pixels within a 62.4 x 98.3 x 24.5 mm housing that weighs 253 g before factoring in bands. For reference, Garmin quotes a 280 g weight when attached to a nylon band and buckle. Additionally, it has protected the relatively large display with sapphire glass and 200 metres of water resistance (20 ATM).

Moreover, the dive computer has a GNSS module, 32 GB of built-in storage and up to 13 hours of battery life in what Garmin describes as 'high brightness'. Alternatively, the Descent X50i should last up to 20 hours when diving at night. On top of that, the dive computer supports features like diveview maps, subwave sonar networking and air tank pressure monitoring when paired with a Descent T2 transceiver.
Furthermore, the Descent X50i can show technical data fields, depth maps and offers customisable dive modes. Currently, Garmin only sells one variant, which retails for $1,499.99 in the US. Please see Garmin's website for more information.
