Over the past few months, users have repeatedly posted on Reddit reporting problems with the LED flashlight on their Google Pixel 10 Pro ($799 on Amazon) or Pixel 10 Pro XL. Apparently, the front glass of the LED flashlight can melt during prolonged use, resulting in a darker, burnt spot in the center of this lens, which makes the flashlight dimmer.
The high heat development is said to have caused at least one user to burn the palm rest of a keyboard when a Google Pixel 10 Pro XL was placed on the palm rest with the flashlight switched on. To prevent this problem, the LED flashlight on most smartphones is dimmed or switched off when it exceeds a certain temperature, but apparently this safety feature does not always work as expected on the Google Pixel 10 Pro (XL).
To avoid the problem, make sure that the flashlight is always switched off before the smartphone is put down or put in your pocket. As Android Authority notes, it is normal for the center area of the LED flashlight to appear slightly darker than the rest, as the LED can be seen a little through the front glass. However, burnt glass is significantly darker, as the photo of an affected user embedded below shows. Google has not yet officially commented on this problem, but the relatively low number of user reports on Reddit suggests that the problem is not particularly widespread.
