Power Bank recalled second time after explosion resulting in death

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has already announced a product recall of a Casely Wireless Portable Power Bank with model number "E33A" and a capacity of 5,000 mAh on April 15, 2025, now follows a second recall. Since the announcement of the first product recall, a total of 28 additional incidents have been reported, bringing the total number of reported malfunctioning power banks to 79 out of 429,200 units sold.
The Power Bank was sold from March 2022 to September 2024, and was only removed from storefronts after a fatality. In August 2024, a 75-year-old woman from New Jersey died as a result of burns caused by a Casely Power Bank that was placed on her lap to charge a smartphone before it exploded. In February 2026, a Casely Power Bank caught fire on an airplane while a smartphone was being charged on it. The 47-year-old owner of the power bank suffered first-degree burns.
Anyone who owns such a power bank should stop using it immediately and contact the manufacturer via the Casely website to arrange a free replacement with an unaffected Power Bank. If you would like to check whether there are any safety warnings and product recalls for your own power banks, you can do so on the official EU Safety Gate website and on the US CPSC Recalls & Safety Warnings website. Especially for products with integrated batteries, such as power banks, product recalls should never be ignored, as overheating batteries can quickly lead to burns and a fire.
