Lenovo ThinkStation mod uses a rare low-profile AMD GPU for gaming

Lenovo’s ThinkStation Tiny series usually sees a quiet life under office desks, running spreadsheets and basic web apps. However, these one-liter machines have become a favorite for those looking to build high-performance "sleeper" PCs in the smallest possible footprint. A recent project from ITG Gear takes this concept too seriously, by pairing an Intel Core i7-10700 with a particularly elusive graphics card that changes the character of the P340 entirely.
The heart of the build is undoubtedly the AMD Radeon RX 7400. While low-profile GPUs like the Nvidia T1000 (curr. $328 on Amazon for the PNY variant) are pretty common in the small form factor community, this 8 GB AMD card is much harder to find on the retail market. Its 8 GB of VRAM is way better than integrated solutions, which means the tiny workstation can handle modern textures and games that would typically choke on standard office hardware. Because the card relies solely on the PCIe slot for power, it entirely bypasses the need for complex internal cable management or an upgraded power supply.
Naturally, cramming a discrete GPU and an eight-core CPU into a chassis the size of a large book brings thermal issues. The P340 Tiny uses a very dense internal layout - it requires a specific PCIe riser to position the GPU properly within the cramped interior. During the build, managing the airflow between the CPU blower and the new card was key to prevent thermal throttling. The final result is a machine that keeps its original factory look, all while hiding surprisingly capable hardware under the hood.
Performance testing further confirmed that the setup can run modern titles at respectable frame rates (see above). While it certainly won't outpace a full-sized desktop tower, the project is clear proof that older office inventory is still quite a viable platform for those who can source the right low-profile components, and well, tinker around a little.
