IKEA SYMFONISK wireless charging shelf for Wi-Fi Sonos speaker revealed

A wireless charging shelf will soon be available for the IKEA SYMFONISK Shelf Wi-Fi Speaker. The accessory will bring additional storage space to the device, charging smartphones and other Qi-compatible gadgets. Plus, a USB-C port will let you charge a device at up to 18 W.

The SYMFONISK Gen 2 speaker was designed in partnership with Sonos, enabling you to pair the device with other products from the audio brand. The speaker was first released in the Netherlands earlier this year and has recently rolled out globally to countries including France, the US and Canada.

The gadget is compatible with the IKEA Home smart ecosystem and can be controlled via the IKEA or Sonos apps. The SYMFONISK supports Apple AirPlay 2, allowing you to stream directly from Apple devices with iOS 11.4 or later, and the speaker works with Spotify Connect.

You can mount the SYMFONISK speaker on the wall horizontally to be used as a shelf. Alternatively, you could place it on a surface horizontally or vertically. You can use two speakers to create a stereo sound set-up or pair the gadgets with other Sonos speakers for a more comprehensive home theater system.

The IKEA SYMFONISK shelf with wireless charging function will launch later this month for €39.99 (~US$43). The IKEA SYMFONISK Gen 2 Shelf Wi-Fi Speaker is available for €129 (~US$140); the device measures 10 x 15 x 31 cm (~3.9 x 5.9 x 12.2-in) and is available in black and white.
