Mac Mini (2022) is slated to launch with M1 Pro and M2 variants according to placeholder retail listings
A successor to 2020's Mac Mini has been said to debut at or around WWDC 2022. It is expected to arrive with an updated version of this Apple PC's form-factor with the new M2 processor. However, according to B&H Photo Video, there may be more variety involved in this launch than previously thought.
The popular seller of cameras and other devices has added 2 different new pages, both of which are for the "Apple Mac mini Early 2022". They do not differ in terms of RAM or storage, having 8GB and 256GB of those respectively (thereby possibly indicating that these are once again base-model specs), but in terms of chipset.
One of these alleged new machines has the M2, all right, whereas the other seems to be an M1 Pro-powered version instead. Even more interestingly, the latter is referred to as a "tower", whereas the former is not.
It is not clear what this possible distinction might mean, especially as most recent design leaks point to a further loss of height if anything. The use of the term might simply be a mistake on B&H's part; on the other hand, it is a well-known and well-regarded authorized Apple dealer.
Therefore, it is just possible that only the new M2 variant gets the rumored new and flatter design, whereas the 'Mac Mini Pro' gets a chassis that at least looks older and taller in 2022.
