Huawei has officially unveiled the second-generation MateBook Fold Ultimate Design. The premium foldable laptop features an 18-inch dual-layer OLED display, the new Kirin X90 Plus processor, HarmonyOS 6.1, and support for a new AI-powered M-Pencil stylus.

The MateBook Fold Ultimate Design returns for a second generation with a new processor, HarmonyOS 6.1, and a redesigned hinge. As we reported previously, Huawei teased many of these improvements ahead of today's launch.

Huawei has kept the 18-inch dual-layer OLED display. The screen folds down to roughly the size of a 13-inch laptop, making it easier to fit into a bag. It also offers a 3.3K resolution, up to 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness, a 92% screen-to-body ratio, LTPO adaptive refresh rate support, and HDR.

The new Kirin X90 Plus processor replaces last year's chip. Huawei claims it delivers around 25% smoother performance and operates at a 28 W TDP. Buyers can choose up to 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB of SSD storage.

Inside, the notebook uses a larger waterdrop hinge with zirconium-based liquid metal components. According to Huawei, the updated design improves durability while making the laptop smoother to open and close. A silicone-coated vegan leather finish covers the rear, while a built-in kickstand lets users prop up the device with external accessories.

HarmonyOS 6.1 adds several features for the foldable design. The notebook can switch between tablet, laptop, and desktop modes. When partly folded, the lower half of the display works as a virtual keyboard and touchpad. Huawei is also introducing a new AI-powered M-Pencil stylus for handwriting, note-taking, and sketching.

Huawei has equipped this MateBook Fold with an 8 MP front camera, an ultra-thin vapor chamber cooling system, and a dual-cell battery that supports 140 W wired fast charging. The company says the cooling system helps prevent performance drops during heavy workloads.

The MateBook Fold Ultimate Design (2026) comes in three versions: 24 GB + 512 GB, 24 GB + 1 TB, and 32 GB + 2 TB. Prices start at 24,999 yuan (around US$3,700), while the highest-end model costs 29,999 yuan (around US$4,440). Huawei has announced the laptop only for China, and there is still no word on a global release.
