New Huawei Nova 16 SE brings 66W charging and satellite messaging

Huawei held its summer product launch event in China, announcing several new devices, including the MateBook Pro S, the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, and the Huawei Nova 16 SE smartphone. The Nova 16 SE joins the existing Nova 16 series, which includes the Nova 16z, standard Nova 16, Nova 16 Pro, and Nova 16 Ultra released earlier this year.

The Nova 16 SE features a 6.84-inch flat OLED display with a resolution of 2756 x 1272 and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen offers up to 8,000 nits of local peak brightness and uses 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. It is built with an aluminum alloy frame and a fiberglass back panel, measuring 7.98mm thick and weighing 229 grams. The device carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance.

The smartphone is powered by the Kirin 8020 chipset and configured with up to 512GB of internal storage. It is equipped with an 8,500mAh battery that supports 66W wired fast charging. Running on HarmonyOS 6.1, the Nova 16 SE includes a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, dual super-linear 1115 speakers, an IR blaster, NFC, Wi-Fi 7, Star Flash 2.0, Bluetooth 6.0, and Beidou satellite messaging.

The camera setup consists of a 32MP front-facing sensor and a dual rear system. The main rear camera is a 50MP RYYB unit with a 1/1.56-inch sensor and optical image stabilization. This is paired with Huawei’s Red Maple color camera, designed to assist with color reproduction.

The Huawei Nova 16 SE is available in China in Starry Black, Sky White, Dawn Orange, and Sakura Sky. The 128GB model is priced at 2,499 Yuan (approximately $370). The 256GB variant costs 2,699 Yuan (approximately $400), and the 512GB version is priced at 3,199 Yuan (approximately $475).
