Huawei has announced several new products today, including the Pocket S and the Watch GT Cyber. However, the company has also returned to its smart home portfolio with the Smart Screen V 2022, a Smart TV series that it sells in two display sizes. Replacing the Smart Screen V 2021 series, Huawei advertises its new Smart TVs as being significantly more powerful, as well as much brighter to boot.
On the one hand, the Smart Screen V 2022 series contains a new GPU that offers up to 230.4 GLOPS of theoretical performance, up from 76.8 GLOPS with the Smart Screen V 2021 series. Additionally, the new TVs come with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of flash storage, which should be enough on which to store most TV-optimised apps. Moreover, Huawei integrates a Devialet-branded speaker system consisting of 6 drivers that output at up to 50 W, plus a 12 MP magnetic camera that can be disconnected at will. Incidentally, the Smart Screen V 2022 series can upscale 720p and 1080p content to 4K via onboard AI, although Huawei has not provided any examples of this yet.
On the other hand, the new TVs should get much brighter than their predecessors. According to Huawei, the Smart Screen V 2022 series delivers up to 900 nits of peak brightness, with 500 nits across the entire TV surface. Furthermore, both models output at 4K, 120 Hz and offer 92% DCI-P3 colour space coverage. At launch, the Smart Screen V 2022 series costs at least CNY 7,999 (~US$1,099), for which Huawei supplies the 65-inch model. Alternatively, Huwaei sells the 75-inch edition for CNY 12,999 (~US$1,786). As is often the case with Huawei's Smart TVs, the company has not confirmed whether it intends to offer the Smart Screen V 2022 series globally yet.
